Commissioning Steps for Emerson SE5109
Step 1 Pre-power-on Inspection
Confirm the module part number is SE5109; inspect the casing and connector pins for mechanical damage.
Ensure the module is properly seated in its assigned power slot on the power-controller carrier.
Inspect external 24 V DC input wiring to verify correct polarity, absence of short-circuits and securely tightened terminals.
Validate reliable PE protective earthing for the control cabinet.
For redundant applications: mount two SE5109 modules in their dedicated slots and ensure all parallel-operation prerequisites are met.
Step 2 Initial Power-on Procedure
Energize the external 24 V DC bulk power source.
Monitor front-panel LED status: the power indicator should illuminate green with no red fault alarm active.
The SE5109 operates in fully automatic hardware mode; no manual parameter setup or DIP-switch modification is needed.
Verify backplane power output: the module converts incoming power to internal 5 V DC and 12 V DC to feed controllers and I/O modules.

Step 3 DeltaV System Hardware Recognition
Launch DeltaV Explorer from the engineering workstation.
Refresh the hardware tree and confirm SE5109 appears automatically under the relevant carrier node.
Check hardware health status showing “OK”, with no unknown-device or hardware-mismatch alerts.
Examine diagnostic data and ensure no input undervoltage, overvoltage or overload alarms are present.
Step 4 Functional Validation
Check downstream loads: DeltaV controllers (such as SE3007) and S-series I/O modules shall power up normally with valid LED indications.
Single-module load test (non-redundant configuration): monitor system operation and confirm no power-associated alarms.
Redundancy test (for redundant installations):
Manually disconnect the 24 V DC input to one SE5109 unit.
Confirm the remaining module assumes full load without controller dropout or DCS service disruption.
Restore power to the offline module and verify it automatically rejoins parallel load-sharing operation.
Step 5 Protection-Logic Simulation Check (subject to site constraints)
Review system diagnostic logs to confirm power-supply-related fault events can be properly captured.
Verify that over-voltage, under-voltage and over-current protective functions generate corresponding alarm messages at operator workstations without harming downstream hardware.
Note: Do not inject actual abnormal voltage or current onto live circuits; only validate alarm reporting capability.
Step 6 Hot-swap Verification
With the system running normally, carefully extract the SE5109 module.
Under redundant configuration, the DCS shall maintain continuous normal operation.
Re-install the module; confirm LED indicators return to normal status and the DeltaV system rediscovers the hardware automatically.
Step 7 Acceptance and Documentation
Ensure no outstanding power-supply-related alarms exist within the DeltaV alarm banner and diagnostic logs.
Document measured 24 V DC input voltage, module operating condition and redundancy test outcomes.
Export and store a hardware diagnostic snapshot for project hand-over records.

Core Functions of Emerson SE5109 (DeltaV S-Series DC-DC System Power Supply)
Main Power Conversion Function
Takes external 24 V DC bulk power as input, converts it into stabilized 5 V DC for DeltaV controllers and 12 V DC (maximum 8 A) for local-bus I/O modules, delivering power to controller and I/O backplane circuits.
Electrical Isolation Function
Offers galvanic isolation between the external 24 V DC input and DeltaV internal system power. It isolates electrical noise and ground-loop interference originating from field circuits so as to protect system circuit boards.
Modular and Hot-swap Support
Features plug-and-play hot-swappable architecture. The module can be replaced in any power slot on the power-controller carrier without shutting down the system. Parallel redundant power configuration is supported to enhance power-supply reliability for critical control cabinets.
Over-voltage and Under-voltage Protection
Integrated voltage monitoring circuitry detects input undervoltage, overvoltage and output overload. Protection shutdown will be triggered to prevent hardware damage to controllers and I/O modules.
Status Indication and Fault Alarm
Front-panel LED lamps indicate power-on status, normal operation and fault conditions. Abnormal power-supply events are stored in internal fault logs. Alarm signals are uploaded to the DeltaV system for display on operator workstations and maintenance notification.
Load-balancing Capability
Multiple SE5109 units can operate in parallel with automatic load sharing, which expands overall power capacity for large-size DeltaV cabinets with high-density I/O layout.
System Compatibility
Fully compatible with S-series DeltaV controllers including KJ2005X1-BK1 (SE3007) and corresponding S-series I/O modules. No additional configuration is needed; the hardware is auto-identified by the DeltaV database after installation.
Application Scope
Mounted on the power-controller carrier inside DCS cabinets, it is designed exclusively for powering internal DeltaV S-series hardware. This module cannot supply power directly to field transmitters or other field-located devices.
