HIMA F8652X Advantages
SIL certification: Certified to SIL 3 in accordance with IEC 61508 for safety instrumented functions and also meets PLe requirements
Dual-core safety architecture: Incorporates two 32-bit microprocessors running in lockstep synchronization. It compares calculation results continuously to identify internal hardware faults
High deterministic performance: Executes safety logic within fast, fixed scan cycles and delivers rapid response to process safety incidents
Comprehensive self-diagnosis: Embedded safety watchdog and memory protection functions monitor hardware, memory, power supply and communication links continuously. A front-panel digital display presents operating status and fault codes
Redundancy support: Supports 1oo2D redundant architecture with bumpless transfer, lowering the probability of dangerous failure on demand
Rich isolated interfaces: Equipped with galvanically isolated RS485 serial ports and an Ethernet port. It works with the HIMA safety bus and standard communication protocols to interface with DCS and upper-level host systems
Sturdy environmental adaptability: Features a broad operating temperature range and strong immunity to vibration and electromagnetic interference, suited for demanding industrial cabinet conditions
Modular rack-mounted design: Standard Eurocard form factor for seamless installation within HiQuad racks
Fault-safe behavior: Triggers the predefined safe state upon detection of severe faults to prevent unsafe outputs
Convenient maintenance: Detailed diagnostic data accelerates fault location. Online status access is available through engineering software
High compatibility: Interoperates with corresponding HIMA safety I/O modules and supports retrofits of legacy H41q/H51q safety installations

Working Principle of HIMA F8652X Safety Central CPU Module
The F8652X acts as the core safety controller for the HIMA HiQuad H41q/H51q SIS platform with SIL 3 certification to IEC 61508. It utilizes a lockstep dual 32-bit processor architecture to deliver fail-safe safety instrumented functions for industrial emergency protection, ESD and fire & gas systems.
Lockstep Dual-Processor Core Operation
The module integrates two 32-bit microprocessors synchronized by the same clock. Both run the identical safety application and process the same input data independently. A dedicated hardware comparator continuously verifies their computation results. Any discrepancy triggers immediate fault detection and activates the fail-safe routine. This cross-checking scheme identifies faults within the CPU, memory and registers online and prevents unsafe outputs from single-point hardware failures. Each processor has separate Flash program memory and SRAM data memory to mitigate common-cause memory faults.

Cyclic Deterministic Safety Logic Execution
User safety logic developed in ELOP II Factory is executed by the CPU within fixed, deterministic scan cycles. The module retrieves field digital and analog signals from I/O modules over the rack backplane safety bus, processes SIF logic, interlock conditions, voting schemes and emergency shutdown calculations, and transmits safety output commands to relevant I/O channels. Fixed scan cycles ensure predictable response latency for safety events, a key requirement for high-risk process protection.
Continuous Multi-Layer Self-Diagnosis Mechanism
Background diagnostic routines run throughout normal operation, monitoring supply voltage, processor status, ECC-protected memory integrity, backplane bus communication and I/O channel health. An onboard hardware watchdog timer forces the module to its predefined safe state if program execution hangs or malfunctions. Diagnostic codes and operational status are displayed on the front-panel four-digit LED, enabling fast fault identification and maintenance.
Redundancy and Bumpless Switchover Logic
The F8652X supports 1oo2D redundant CPU deployment. Two F8652X modules run synchronously in the same rack, executing identical safety logic and keeping internal state data continuously synchronized. Upon failure of the active controller, the standby module assumes control instantly without discontinuing safety protection. Process variables, interlock status and SOE records stay consistent during transfer to avoid unwanted trips or loss of protection.
Signal and Bus Data Interaction
The CPU exchanges data with local and remote I/O modules via the internal backplane safety bus to collect sensor readings and issue commands to actuators. Two galvanically isolated RS485 interfaces connect to DCS, SCADA or HMI systems for non-safety data such as process values, alarms and event sequences. Safety-related communication is isolated from supervisory data to prevent external interference from corrupting safety logic.
Fail-Safe Output Mechanism
This module follows a fault-to-safe design. Critical faults including processor mismatch, watchdog timeout, power loss or severe communication failure cause the CPU to revoke safety enable signals. Safety outputs de-energize and revert to preconfigured safe states, such as closing valves, stopping pumps or activating ESD, to transition hazardous processes to a safe condition.
Program Download and Event Logging
Safety application code, parameters and threshold values are downloaded to the module using ELOP II engineering software. The CPU stores time-stamped sequence-of-event records, fault history and alarms to support incident investigation and audit trails. Configuration data resides in non-volatile memory and remains intact after power loss.
Power and Environmental Circuit Operation
The module operates on 24 VDC rack supply. Onboard power monitoring circuits continuously track input voltage; out-of-spec power is classified as a fault and initiates safe-state transition. Internal isolation circuitry suppresses surges and electromagnetic noise originating from field devices, making the module suitable for cabinet mounting within chemical, power and oil & gas facilities.
