1C31189G03 Emerson Ovation Speed Detector Interface Module

The Emerson 1C31189G03 is a rack-mounted Speed Detector Personality Module for the Ovation DCS that conditions pulse/frequency inputs from magnetic pickups or proximity probes (0–10 kHz, ±0.05% FS, ≤10 ms response) and feeds isolated speed data to the controller for turbine, compressor and pump monitoring. Emerson 1C31189G03 Input & Output

Input

This module provides 8 differential analog input channels for field voltage signal acquisition. It supports standard input ranges of ±5 V DC and ±10 V DC, with 14-bit sampling resolution and a sampling frequency of 50/60 samples per second. Module logic power is supplied by 5 V DC from the Ovation rack backplane. Each field input channel is equipped with built-in surge protection, and optical isolation structure is adopted between field circuits and internal control circuits to improve system anti-interference capability.

Output

There is no on-site analog or relay output function for this module. After analog-to-digital conversion, the module uploads digital process values, channel working status and self-diagnosis information to the Ovation main controller through the rack backplane bus. Meanwhile, front-panel LED lamps intuitively display module power supply status and fault alarm status during operation.

Voltage & Current Key Parameters

Logic power supply adopts 5 V DC backplane power supply. Each channel features an input impedance greater than 1 MΩ. The isolation strength between field side and logic side reaches 1500 V AC. The module works stably within the temperature range of 0 °C to +60 °C, with a typical power consumption of 3.5 W.

Emerson 1C31189G03 Functions

The 1C31189G03 is a personality module designed to pair with the high-speed analog input electronic module in the Emerson Ovation DCS platform. It performs conditioning for field voltage signals prior to analog-to-digital conversion.

The module offers eight differential input channels that accept ±5 V DC and ±10 V DC voltage signals for process measurement. With 14-bit resolution and a sampling rate of 50/60 samples per second, it delivers reliable analog measurement data.

Every input channel includes built-in surge protection to mitigate transient noise coming from field cabling. Optical galvanic isolation isolates field wiring from internal control logic, reducing potential harm to system hardware resulting from ground offset voltages.

No physical field output signals are available on this module. Once signal conditioning finishes, raw analog signals are forwarded to the companion electronic module for A/D conversion. Process digital values, channel status and fault diagnostic results are transmitted to the Ovation controller via the rack back-plane bus.

Front-panel LED lights show module power and fault status, assisting field technicians with routine checks and fault location. The module receives its logic power from the Ovation rack back-plane and needs no separate external power connection. Channel parameters and configuration are set entirely through DCS software; no hardware jumper settings are needed.

Commonly deployed for precise voltage signal measurement in power plants and other process-industry sites, this unit fits well for system retrofits and spare-part replacement of existing Ovation installations.
