Advantages of ELAU PS-5 VPM02D20AA00
High-performance central power supply tailored for the PacDrive iSH servo drive system.
It accepts wide-range three-phase AC input of 208 V-480 V, compatible with various industrial grid environments.
It provides 5 kW continuous power output alongside 10 kW peak power, satisfying high-dynamic short-term overload requirements for multi-axis servo applications.
Equipped with integrated Sercos-II high-speed real-time bus interface to guarantee accurate multi-axis synchronous motion control.
Comes with dedicated interface for external braking resistor, properly dissipating regenerative energy generated during servo deceleration.
Separate 24 V DC control power input maintains communication and diagnostic functions even under main power loss conditions.
Comprehensive onboard protection covers over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current and over-temperature, delivering full-range protection for the entire servo system.
Compact modular construction facilitates cabinet arrangement and seamless combination with other PacDrive servo modules.
Onboard status LED indicators enable rapid fault identification and convenient on-site troubleshooting.
Steady DC-bus output supplies uniform power to connected servo axes and minimizes motion fluctuations.
Superior electromagnetic compatibility ensures dependable operation within heavy-interference industrial scenarios.
Streamlined wiring layout reduces system commissioning time and simplifies later-period maintenance work.

How does the ELAU PS-5 VPM02D20AA00 handle regenerative loads?
The ELAU VPM02D20AA00 (PS-5) central power supply handles regenerative loads via its integrated brake chopper circuit and dedicated external braking-resistor terminal.
When servo axes decelerate or perform reverse movements, motors operate in generator mode and feed regenerative energy back into the shared DC-bus. The DC-bus voltage rises accordingly.
1. Minor regenerative energy is temporarily buffered by internal DC-link capacitors.
2. Once DC-bus voltage hits the over-voltage threshold, the built-in brake chopper activates and routes surplus regenerative energy to an externally connected braking resistor, where excess energy is dissipated as heat.
3. This module has no internal braking resistor; an external bleeder resistor must be wired to the designated connector for applications with frequent or heavy regenerative loads.
4. Integrated DC-bus voltage monitoring prevents over-voltage faults and protects the whole multi-axis PacDrive iSH servo system.
5. If regenerative energy exceeds the resistor’s dissipation capability, the power supply will trigger an over-voltage alarm and shut down for hardware protection.
