Functions of DEIF AGC-4

Genset Basic Control

Provides automatic start-stop management for diesel and gas generator sets, together with local manual and remote control modes. It executes complete engine sequence logic including pre-lubrication, pre-heating, cranking and post-stop cool-down, and implements control logic for circuit-breaker closing and opening operations.

Comprehensive Protection Functions

Delivers ANSI-compliant electrical protection covering over-voltage, under-voltage, over-frequency, under-frequency, over-current, reverse power, negative power and overload conditions. Engine-related protection monitors overspeed, low oil pressure, high coolant temperature and battery voltage. Faults are categorized as warnings or trips, with fault latching, alarm records and time-stamped event storage available.

Synchronization Control

Performs automatic synchronisation for generator-to-mains and generator-to-generator parallel applications. The synchronisation check window is adjustable to match site requirements, achieving precise matching of voltage, frequency and phase angle. Built-in synchronisation permission interlock prevents dangerous out-of-phase breaker closure.

Load Management

Enables active and reactive load sharing between paralleled generator sets. It supports base-load operation, peak-shaving as well as import-export power regulation. Integrated PID controllers handle power-factor and VAR adjustment. Additional functions include load-dependent genset start-stop and N+X standby management.

Operating Modes

AMF (Auto Mains Failure): Automatic backup power activation upon mains supply failure.

Island mode: Stand-alone isolated power supply operation.

Mains parallel mode: Grid-connected parallel running.

Load transfer: Seamless power switching between utility mains and generator supply.

Test mode: Scheduled periodic exercising of generator sets.

Multi-unit Power Management

Adopts a multi-master architecture eliminating dependency on a dedicated central master controller. It can manage up to 32 generator sets and supports further expansion for large-scale power plants. The controller handles a maximum of 56 circuit breakers and executes plant-wide load distribution and system logic.

Built-in Programmable Logic

Offers free custom-logic capability with flexible I/O signal mapping. Users can configure customized interlock conditions, auxiliary equipment linkage and site-specific control sequences without deploying extra external PLC hardware.

Simulation & Commissioning Function

Integrated bench-top emulation test function simulates measured values, digital I/O status and full synchronisation workflow without physical generators or high-voltage switchgear. This facilitates pre-commissioning validation, functional verification and engineer training.

Communication Interface

Supported protocols include Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, Profibus-DP and CAN bus. It enables bidirectional data exchange with third-party PLC, DCS and SCADA systems for uploading measurements, equipment status and alarm information, as well as receiving remote control commands. Compatibility with DEIF ASC-4 enables hybrid control for diesel-PV microgrid systems.

Grid-Connection Function

Meets major international grid-code requirements such as VDE-AR-N-4105/4110, EN 50549-1/2 and ENA G99. On-board grid-protection and grid-support features simplify engineering implementation and compliance approval for grid-parallel installations.

HMI & Data Recording

Supports local front-panel operation and works with external TDU series touch-screen HMI. Real-time electrical and engine operating data can be displayed on-site. The controller stores alarm logs, event history and running-hour counter data, and supports parameter backup and restoration.

Hardware Expansion

Additional digital and analogue I/O points can be extended through CAN-bus-connected CIO I/O modules. It is compatible with the DVC550 digital automatic voltage regulator and reads engine operating data via J1939 CAN-bus for Tier4 / Stage V emission-compliant engines.

Redundancy Support

Hot-standby redundant controller configuration is available. Bumpless automatic switch-over takes place if the primary controller fails, enhancing overall system reliability for critical power-supply applications.

Advantages of DEIF AGC-4

Highly-integrated all-in-one controller. Combines genset control, complete ANSI-standard protection, automatic synchronisation, active/reactive load sharing and power-management logic within single hardware unit. Extra general-purpose PLC hardware is normally unnecessary, lowering total system cost and simplifying cabinet layout. Multiple built-in operation modes support AMF, island operation, base-load, peak-shaving, mains parallel and load-transfer applications.

Powerful multi-unit power-management capability. Adopts multi-master architecture without relying on a single central master controller. It supports up to 32 gensets for basic power management and can be extended for larger plants. Load-dependent start-stop, N+X standby logic and parallel control for up to 56 breakers are available for complex power-plant configurations.

Fast backup power response for critical loads. Equipped with close-before-excitation function, enabling stable backup power output within 6 seconds. Well-suited for mission-critical sites such as data centres, hospitals and airports. Hot-standby redundant controller option supports bumpless switch-over upon primary-controller failure to improve system reliability.

Built-in emulation test function. Patent-pending emulation function allows full-system logic, I/O and synchronisation simulation on-bench without real genset or high-voltage switchgear. It shortens factory commissioning-cycle, facilitates engineer training and reduces on-site testing risks and equipment damage possibilities.

Flexible hardware & programmable logic. Supports expansion via CAN-based CIO I/O modules. Built-in free programmable logic replaces custom PLC logic. I/O functions can be freely mapped to match site-specific requirements. Compatible with DEIF DVC550 digital voltage regulator; multiple PID loops handle voltage, VAR and cos-phi regulation.

Wide communication compatibility. Native support for Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, Profibus and CAN bus. Seamlessly connects to third-party PLC, DCS and SCADA for remote monitoring, alarm upload and remote command execution. Works plug-and-play with DEIF ASC-4 hybrid controller for micro-grid and PV-diesel hybrid power systems.

Global grid-code compliance. Fully complies with mainstream grid-connection standards including VDE-AR-N-4105/4110, EN 50549-1/2 and ENA G99. Integrated grid-protection and grid-support functions simplify grid-parallel project approval and engineering implementation.

User-friendly human-machine interface. Works with local front-panel keys or external TDU series touch-screen displays. Intuitive graphical interface provides real-time measurement, alarm logs, event records and parameter modification, lowering operation-and-maintenance difficulty.

Excellent compatibility & certification. Backward-compatible with AGC-150 series; supports modern engine CAN-bus protocols for Tier 4 / Stage V emission-compliant gensets. Certified by UL and TÜV, suitable for land-based stationary, marine and offshore power-generation scenarios.
