Installation Procedures for ABB RED615 HBDCACADABB1AAN1XC Line Differential Protection IED

1. Unpacking & Pre-installation Inspection

Carefully remove packaging and inspect the IED for transportation damage, scratches or deformed connectors.

Verify model code HBDCACADABB1AAN1XC, serial number and delivery accessories against delivery documents.

Check installation environment: temperature -25°C ~ +70°C, humidity 5%–95% non-condensing; avoid severe vibration, dust, corrosive gas and strong electromagnetic interference.

Prepare necessary tools: ESD wrist strap, torque screwdriver, multimeter and installation accessories.

2. Cabinet Cutout Confirmation & Mechanical Mounting

Adopt flush / semi-flush panel mounting according to design requirements.

Confirm panel cutout dimension: 165.5 mm × 161.5 mm; guarantee sufficient rear wiring space.

Detach the plug-in main unit first: lift front handle to 90° to unlock, then pull the plug-in unit out from the housing case.

Secure empty housing case onto cabinet panel with specified torque (0.7–1.0 N·m). Ensure uniform gasket compression to maintain front IP protection rating.

Keep minimum clearance around the IED for natural heat dissipation.

3. Insertion & Locking of Plug-in Unit

Align plug-in unit with housing guide rails; lift handle to 90° and push the unit fully inward.

Swing the handle down gradually to complete internal connector engagement. Confirm the unit is fully seated without gap.

Install sealing wire on front handle sealing screw to prevent unauthorized removal.

Do not apply brute force during insertion to avoid damaging internal back connectors.

4. Protective Earth Connection

Run dedicated PE ground wire to the IED protective earth terminal.

Connect the other end reliably to cabinet main earth bar.

Implement single-point grounding; avoid forming ground loops together with CT/VT cable shielding.

5. Field Wiring Work (Power OFF Status Mandatory)

Auxiliary Power Wiring

Connect AC/DC auxiliary supply to power terminals. Confirm voltage range: 48–250 V DC / 100–240 V AC. Strictly check polarity for DC supply.

CT & VT Analog Input Wiring

Wire current transformer and voltage transformer secondary circuits. Follow polarity requirements strictly for differential protection.

Use twisted shielded cables; cable shield grounded at cabinet terminal side only.

Never open CT secondary circuit during operation.

Binary Input Wiring

Connect external status signals to binary input terminals. Binary inputs require external excitation voltage.

Binary Output Contact Wiring

Wire trip PO contacts, signal SO contacts and IRF fault output. All contacts are passive dry contacts.

Separate trip circuit wiring from low-signal cables to reduce interference.

Communication Wiring

Install Ethernet cables or fiber optic cables for IEC 61850 / differential line pilot communication. Respect minimum bending radius for optical fibers.

Route power cables, analog cables and signal cables in separate cable ducts.

6. Wiring Continuity & Insulation Check

Check all terminals are fastened with standard torque to avoid loose contacts.

Perform continuity test for each circuit; confirm no short-circuit between phases, short to ground or crossed wiring.

Verify insulation resistance of secondary circuits meets site safety requirements.

Label each wire terminal clearly according to wiring drawing.

7. Pre-power-on Verification

Double-check wiring polarity, CT/VT wiring sequence, auxiliary power range.

Confirm no temporary test jumpers remain on terminals.

Clear foreign debris inside housing and terminal area.

8. Power-on Initial Check

Energize auxiliary power supply.

Observe front panel LED indicators; wait for IED self-diagnosis initialization.

Confirm no hardware fault alarm appears after startup.

Connect laptop via front service port using PCM600 software to verify communication with the IED.

9. Post-installation Arrangement

Arrange and bind all cables neatly. Install cable gland sealing.

Close cabinet door; record installation information including installation position, wiring inspection result and installation date.

Retain wiring photos for future maintenance.
