Triconex 3506X I/O Definition (Official Standard)

1. Output Specification

The Triconex 3506X is a dedicated safety-grade digital input module with no physical output channels. This module is purely designed for field digital signal acquisition and does not support any digital output (DO), analog output (AO), or relay output functions. It only serves as a signal input device for the Tricon TMR safety system without any control output capability.

2. Input Specification

The 3506X is a high-reliability triple modular redundant (TMR) isolated digital input module applied in Tricon SIS safety systems, dedicated to collecting field discrete switch signals for safety interlock and sequence control logic.

Signal Type: Galvanically Isolated Digital Input (DI)

Channel Quantity: 32 independent single-ended digital input channels

Supported Field Signal Modes:Dry Contact Input: Passive contact closure signal, applicable for field switches, buttons and relay contact signals without external power supply

24 VDC Wet Contact Input: Active 24 VDC field signal, suitable for powered field discrete sensors and transmitters

Built-in Functional Features:

Configurable channel anti-chatter filter: effectively filters instantaneous signal jitter and interference to avoid false signal triggering

Comprehensive line fault detection: real-time monitoring of field loop open-circuit and short-circuit faults, with accurate fault alarming and logging

System Architecture: Adopts standard TMR (Triple Modular Redundancy) voting mechanism. Each input channel is sampled and processed by three independent redundant channels simultaneously. The system executes fault-tolerant voting judgment to ensure continuous and safe system operation even with single-channel faults, meeting SIL3 safety integrity level requirements.

Commissioning Procedure for Triconex 3506X 32-Channel Digital Input Module

1. Pre-Commissioning Inspection

Ensure the Triconex 3506X module is fully and securely installed in the designated backplane slot of the Tricon chassis. Verify that the chassis DC power supply operates within the rated range of 24 VDC ±20%.

Inspect the termination assembly and all field wiring, including cable shielding, system grounding and signal isolation connections. Confirm that all field loops are free of short-circuit and open-circuit faults prior to power-up.

Establish stable online communication between the TriStation 1131 software and the Tricon safety controller, and confirm normal connection to the logical slot assigned to the 3506X module.

Complete hardware verification to ensure the module model and hardware revision are consistent with the project BOM and design specifications.

2. Hardware Initialization and Diagnostic Verification

Power on the Tricon chassis and observe the module status LEDs. Under normal operating conditions, the Run indicator shall be steady ON and the Fault indicator OFF.

Retrieve and review hardware diagnostic information via TriStation 1131 or the Enhanced Diagnostic Monitor. Clear all historical alarms after eliminating corresponding root causes.

Check the TMR voting status of the module to confirm three-channel synchronization is normal with no channel mismatch, bus communication errors or abnormal fault codes.

Verify the hot-swap function of the 3506X module. Confirm that module replacement can be performed online without interrupting controller operation or triggering communication faults.

3. Module Parameter Configuration and Download

Access the hardware configuration interface in TriStation 1131 and select the corresponding logical slot of the 3506X module for parameter setup.

Configure core module parameters in accordance with project requirements:

Signal input type: dry contact / 24 VDC wet contact

Channel filter time (anti-chatter suppression)

Line fault detection enable/disable

TMR voting mode matching the system architecture

Compile the complete project configuration and download it to the Tricon controller. Confirm the download process is completed successfully without configuration errors or exceptions.

Go online with the controller and verify all configured parameters take effect normally on the 3506X module.

4. Channel-by-Channel Loop Function Test

Conduct individual signal simulation tests for all 32 digital input channels:

- Dry contact channels: switch the field terminals between open and short status

- Wet contact channels: apply and remove 24 VDC input signals

Monitor real-time channel status via the online monitoring window of TriStation 1131. Ensure each channel state changes synchronously with field signals without inversion, delay, drift or misjudgment.

Test the line fault detection function by simulating open-loop and short-loop faults on individual channels. Confirm that accurate channel fault alarms are generated and recorded in the system diagnostic log.

Perform the above tests for all channels and record the pass/fail status of each point completely.

5. System Logic and Interlock Verification

Carry out functional verification of safety interlock logic associated with 3506X input points. Trigger relevant safety input signals one by one to confirm downstream logic and interlock actions comply with design requirements.

Verify that SOE (Sequence of Events) function works normally, and accurate timestamps are captured for all signal state changes.

Simulate single-channel faults within the TMR voting group to verify the system executes correct voting results without false tripping, and all fault events are completely logged by the system.

6. Post-Commissioning Completion Work

Acknowledge and clear all temporary alarms generated during commissioning. Ensure no active hardware faults or channel abnormal alarms remain in the system.

Save and back up the final version of the TriStation 1131 project file, and export all diagnostic logs for project filing and handover.

Complete the loop commissioning test report, including tag list, test results, test date and signed confirmation.

Complete system handover to operation and maintenance personnel, and brief on common fault phenomena and daily troubleshooting methods for the 3506X module.
