Application Cases of ABB SDCS-CON-H01 (Part No.3ADT320000R1501)
The SDCS-CON-H01 is the master control board for ABB DCS880 series DC converters. It executes core functions including DC drive regulation, signal sampling, thyristor firing management, fault diagnosis and field-bus communication for heavy-duty industrial applications.
Steel & Metallurgical Rolling Production Line
Mounted within DCS880 DC converter cabinets for main drives of hot-rolling and cold-rolling mills. It delivers high-precision closed-loop speed and torque control for DC main motors, stabilizes strip tension throughout rolling cycles and supports multi-drive synchronous coordination. It is frequently deployed for modernization retrofits of legacy steel-plant DC drive systems, greatly reducing unplanned downtime triggered by aged control hardware.
Port Heavy-Duty Crane & Hoisting Equipment
Integrated into DC drive assemblies for container gantry cranes and heavy-duty overhead cranes. It maintains consistent torque output amid frequent start-stop cycles, lifting/lowering movements and forward-reverse direction switching. Embedded over-current and overspeed protection logic improves operational safety for suspended hoisting loads.
Mining Conveying & Mineral Processing System
Fitted to DC-powered mine belt conveyors and auxiliary ore-grinding drives. It accommodates heavy-load startup conditions and variable-load profiles typical of mining environments, while transmitting real-time drive status and fault alarms to the higher-order PLC control platform.
Pulp and Paper Industry Production Line
Implemented on paper-machine DC drives covering wire-section, press-section and dryer-section auxiliary motors. It ensures reliable speed adjustment and paper-web tension control, sustaining consistent paper-forming quality during continuous-run manufacturing.
Wire and Cable Manufacturing Equipment
Applied to DC main drives for wire-drawing machines and stranding equipment. It offers accurate low-speed high-torque performance and fulfils strict continuous tension demands for metal wire drawing workflows.
Retrofit & Spare-Part Replacement for Existing DC Drive Systems
Compatible with DCS880 converter frames H1-H8 as a drop-in replacement control core. It is extensively used for equipment maintenance and drive upgrade projects. It restores complete drive performance for ageing production lines without altering major power hardware, providing a cost-effective renovation option for facilities still operating DC-motor-oriented processes.
Heavy-Duty Material-Handling Conveyor in Cement Industry
Regulates high-power DC motors for raw-material conveying machinery. It withstands recurring heavy-load impact loads and realizes seamless interaction with factory-wide DCS systems via field-bus interfaces.

Fault-Diagnosis Mechanism of ABB SDCS-CON-H01 (3ADT320000R1501)
Serving as the core main control board of the ABB DCS880 DC converter, the SDCS-CON-H01 implements comprehensive and multi-dimensional fault diagnosis via real-time hardware sampling, firmware logic judgment, built-in self-test routines, event recording and multi-channel alarm output.
Real-Time Hardware Sampling and Threshold Monitoring
The board continuously collects and monitors key operating signals, including AC input voltage, DC bus voltage, armature current, field current, motor speed feedback, power unit temperature and external interlock digital signals. It triggers corresponding warnings, alarms or converter shutdown actions once any parameter exceeds predefined protection thresholds. It is capable of detecting open/short circuits in voltage and current sampling loops, tachometer/encoder feedback anomalies and over-temperature faults of power modules.
Power Component Diagnosis (Thyristor Self-Diagnosis)
Equipped with firmware-based thyristor self-test functions available in service mode. With the main contactor closed, the control board outputs test firing pulses to each thyristor branch and judges component status by analyzing current feedback signals. It accurately identifies faulty thyristors, blown fuses and trigger circuit failures. Meanwhile, the built-in DC current ripple monitoring function detects abnormal ripple fluctuations to diagnose missing firing or damaged thyristor branches.
Onboard Hardware and Firmware Self-Check
It performs full power-on self-diagnosis for DSP, FPGA, storage units and peripheral circuits. Integrated watchdog mechanism monitors program operation status and captures firmware exceptions or program runaway faults. Additionally, it continuously detects auxiliary control power quality and parameter backup battery status, and issues low-battery warnings to prevent parameter loss.
Fault Logging and Historical Data Storage
All fault events, including fault codes, occurrence timestamps and real-time operating parameters, are saved in non-volatile onboard memory. Stored fault logs can be retrieved through the local operation panel, DriveWindow PC engineering tool or field bus interface to support accurate post-fault root cause analysis. All faults are hierarchically classified into warnings, minor faults and severe faults based on impact severity.
Communication Link Fault Detection
Realizes real-time diagnosis of field bus interfaces and internal inter-board communication. It effectively detects communication failures such as signal interruption, data frame errors and transmission timeouts between the main control board, excitation board and peripheral I/O modules.
Multi-Channel Fault Indication and Output
Onboard LED indicators display real-time device running and fault status. Specific fault codes can be displayed on the local operator panel. Digital relay alarm contacts can upload fault signals to external PLC or factory DCS systems, and fault information can also be remotely transmitted via field bus.
STO Safety Circuit Diagnosis
Supports real-time cross-monitoring of dual STO safety circuits. It immediately reports circuit inconsistency, signal abnormality and STO channel faults to ensure safety torque-off function works reliably.
Multi-Mode Maintenance and Diagnostic Access
Maintenance staff can query diagnostic information and device status through the local panel, professional DriveWindow software or field bus. The dedicated service mode supports manual targeted testing, helping locate intermittent and hidden faults without affecting normal production operation.
