TRICONEX 3805H

Analog Output Module, TMR Triple-Modular Redundancy

Power Input

Module is powered by 24V DC through the Tricon system backplane, with maximum power consumption ≤10W.

No external field input channels. Digital set-point values are transmitted from the Tricon controller to the module over the backplane bus.

Analog Output Signals (Field Side)

CH0-CH7: 8 isolated independent 4-20 mA current-sourcing output channels with DC-coupled current loop.

Full-scale measuring range: 0-21.2 mA (+6% overrange relative to standard 4-20 mA).

Resolution: 12-bit DAC for each individual channel.

Output accuracy: Less than 0.25 % FSR under 0-60 °C within 4-20 mA working range.

Each channel is equipped with positive and negative loop terminals for connection to field actuators.

Built-in Diagnostic Outputs

Channel open-circuit detection status

Channel short-circuit detection status

Module hardware failure status

TMR voting mismatch alarm status

Troubleshooting for TRICONEX 3805H Analog Output Module

Visual Indicator Check

Monitor front-panel LED indicators: PASS, FAULT, ACTIVE, LOAD, PWR1 and PWR2. Steady PASS LED signifies normal module operation, while an active FAULT LED points to hardware failure or field loop malfunction. Validate stable 24V DC backplane power supply and inspect whether the module is properly seated within the chassis slot. Reseat the module when abnormal LED behaviors occur.

Retrieve Diagnostic Information via TriStation 1131

Open the module diagnostic buffer within TriStation 1131 software. Review alarm events such as channel open-circuit, channel short-circuit, TMR voting mismatch, hardware malfunction and loop load anomaly. Document fault timestamps as well as faulty leg details (A/B/C leg). Clear transient soft faults and monitor whether alarms re-occur.

Channel-Level Loop Troubleshooting

For open-circuit alarms: De-energize the field loop, inspect loose terminal connections, cable damage, actuator burnout and poor contact. Measure loop resistance with a multimeter.

For short-circuit alarms: Disconnect field device terminals, check for cable-to-ground short or inter-wire short conditions. Confirm the loop load resistance complies with 3805H specifications.

For inaccurate output readings: Force fixed 4-20 mA set-points from the controller, measure practical loop current at field terminals. Compare measured readings against software set-points to differentiate module-originated faults from field-side device issues.

TMR Voting Mismatch Fault Handling

A voting mismatch indicates inconsistent signals across A/B/C redundant legs. Ensure the module is fully inserted into the backplane slot. Verify uniform firmware revisions across relevant I/O modules. If the fault remains after reseating, execute hot-swap replacement of the 3805H module in strict accordance with Tricon hot-swap guidelines. Download and validate application configuration upon completion of replacement.

Output Deviation / No Output Troubleshooting

Confirm valid digital set-point data is transmitted from the controller over the backplane bus. Check for forced values or logic overrides embedded in application logic. Examine loop polarity and terminal wiring. Temporarily disconnect the field load and connect a test load resistor to validate module output performance. Normal output with the test load confirms defects reside in field wiring or field actuators.

Environmental and Installation Inspection

Make certain chassis operating temperature stays within rated limits. Check terminal blocks for oxidation, corrosion and loose fasteners. Eliminate excessive electromagnetic interference surrounding analog loop cabling. Confirm reliable cabinet protective grounding.

Post-repair Verification

Once faults are rectified, perform full-scale channel tests at 4 mA, 12 mA and 20 mA reference points. Ensure no new diagnostic alarms are reported in TriStation. Document troubleshooting events for traceability.

Further Action

Should failures persist after preceding procedures, substitute the 3805H with a spare module. Return the defective unit for factory failure analysis. Reach out to Triconex technical support for unresolved complex fault scenarios.
