The Emerson A6500-UM is a dual-channel, 3U hot-swappable universal measurement card for the AMS 6500 ATG machinery protection system (API 670 compliant) that accepts eddy-current, piezoelectric, seismic, LF-bearing, Hall-effect and LVDT sensor inputs (0–18.75 kHz) with 5 DI/6 DO, 0/4–20 mA and buffered outputs, and routes processed data via RS-485 to Modbus RTU/TCP or USB for monitoring shaft vibration, eccentricity, expansion, speed and key phase on turbines, compressors and other critical rotating machines.

Input Specifications

Sensor Measurement Channels (2 Channels)

Supports independent or combined dual-channel operation for versatile dynamic signal acquisition. Compatible with a full range of industrial sensors including eddy-current sensors, piezoelectric accelerometers/velocimeters, seismic electrodynamic sensors, low-frequency (LF) bearing vibration sensors, Hall-effect sensors, and dynamic pressure sensors. LVDT sensor compatibility is available with the optional A6500-LC accessory module. The overall measurement frequency range covers 0 Hz to 18750 Hz.

Digital Inputs (5 Channels, DI)

Features standard industrial logic level thresholds with low-level input ranging from 0 V to 3 V DC and high-level input from 13 V to 32 V DC. Each channel operates with a rated input current of 1 mA. Specifically, DI1 and DI2 are dedicated high-precision channels that support key phasor signal input within a frequency range of 0 Hz to 2000 Hz.

Output Specifications

Analog Current Outputs (2 Channels, AO)

Configurable analog current signal range of 0–20 mA or 4–20 mA, delivering high measurement accuracy of ±1% full scale. Designed with a common ground configuration and electrical isolation from the system power supply. The maximum permissible load impedance for each channel is less than 500 Ω, ensuring stable signal transmission in industrial field environments.

Digital Outputs (6 Channels, DO)

Adopts solid-state relay output type for reliable switching performance. Supports an operating voltage of 19 V to 32 V DC, with each channel capable of providing a maximum output current of 100 mA, meeting conventional on-site control and signal feedback requirements.

Working Principle of Emerson A6500-UM

Sensor Analog Signal Acquisition

Equipped with two universal measurement channels configurable for independent or combined operation, the module captures dynamic analog signals from sensors measuring vibration, displacement, pressure and rotational speed. Raw analog signals ranging from 0 Hz to 18750 Hz undergo onboard conditioning, filtering and amplification to suppress industrial noise. It is compatible with eddy-current sensors, piezoelectric sensors, seismic sensors and Hall-effect sensors; LVDT sensors can be supported with the optional A6500-LC accessory.

Digital Signal & Key Phasor Sampling

Five digital input channels collect industrial switch status as well as 0–2000 Hz key phasor pulse signals. The module synchronizes phase and rotational speed information with vibration measurement data to achieve precise monitoring of shaft operating conditions and accurate identification of fault characteristics.

DSP Core Data Processing

An embedded DSP processor executes real-time computation, signal demodulation, amplitude analysis and fault diagnosis on acquired analog and digital signals. Raw physical signals such as vibration and displacement are converted into standardized measurement values, while onboard signal verification and data calibration functions are enabled.

Signal Output & Field Interaction

Processed measurement data is converted to standard 0/4–20 mA analog current outputs for external instrumentation and interconnection with host systems. Solid-state relay digital outputs deliver switching signals based on internal logic judgements to provide field equipment status feedback and auxiliary control.

Industrial Data Transmission & Configuration

Measured data is transmitted to the matched A6500-CC communication card over the internal RS485 bus, and subsequently packaged via Modbus RTU / Modbus TCP/IP for transmission to upper-level systems. The front-panel USB port facilitates real-time parameter setup, debugging and on-site data observation, forming a complete closed-loop system of measurement, processing and communication.
